A Calculator for Your Town's Gas Leak Emissions

March 1, 2021

You can now view estimates of your town’s annual methane emissions from gas leaks on our gas leak maps page. These are calculated using the number of leaks in the town and data from utilities’ lost and unaccounted for (LAUF) emissions estimates.

LAUF is one way utilities report data about gas leaks, including estimates of their total emissions from leaks. We also released an online fugitive emissions calculator that replicates the one utilities use in their LAUF reports. Check out the page to learn more about LAUF, see the emissions from different utilities, and do your own calculations.
