New Project: EJ-Air
We are thrilled and honored to announce that HEET will receive funding from the Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) to improve air quality and respiratory health in three Boston communities. We’ll be working with community leaders and organizations in Dorchester, Roxbury, and Charlestown to learn how we can help them reduce energy use and energy bills, while helping homes to become ready to move off of gas to electricity for heating. To reduce emissions from buildings, we must move all our energy needs to electricity, then move our electric grid to 100% renewables.
CLF recently reached a settlement with a transportation company over school bus idling that was harming the air quality in the communities we’ll be working in. Other organizations that received grants to help remediate this damage are Speak for the Trees, which will offer trees to property owners as well as plant street trees, and Alternatives for Community and Environment, which will be providing discounts on public transportation. We look forward to working with the folks at these two organizations as well.
We're calling this new HEET program EJ-Air. EJ for environmental justice and for the air we all need to breathe.
We at HEET thank CLF for their legal work to enforce the no-idling law, and we are honored to be part of this collaborative effort to improve air quality and respiratory health in these three Boston communities.
