$4 Million Approved for Merrimack Valley Geothermal Network

As part of Eversource’s purchase of Columbia Gas, a settlement fund was created to help the people affected by the Merrimack Valley gas disaster.

$4 million of this fund is earmarked for a geothermal network in the Merrimack Valley! The pilot must be located somewhere in North Andover, Andover, or Lawrence, and must be built and operational within four years.

A site like this one, where new construction is planned, could possibly be a good site for a geothermal network.

The Attorney General’s Office and the Department of Energy Resources will issue an RFP and run a competitive bidding process. Anyone can apply to win the money to install and operate the system.
