What if Massachusetts gas companies replaced leakprone gas pipes under our streets with interconnected street-segment geothermal (Our GeoMicroDistrict)?
BuroHappold Engineering, an international engineering firm, won HEET’s request for proposal to assess the feasibility of this concept for Massachusetts.
BuroHappold found that the GeoMicroDistrict could:
- Provide 100% of the heating and cooling for a significant portion of the state.
- Improve safety since water is not explosive.
- Reduce emissions for the connected buildings by 60% immediately and by over 90% as the electricity grid becomes renewable.
